Don’t Just Read the Bible, Live It

A lot of people read the Bible the same way they’d read The Hunger Games or some spicy Wattpad drama. Page after page, story after story—but no real application. No transformation. I used to be that person. I’d flip through stories like the Israelites leaving Egypt and think, “That’s wild,” and move on with my day.

But the Word of God isn’t a fairy tale. It’s a manual. A map. A mirror. If you’re only reading it for the plot, you’re missing the point.

Egypt Wasn’t Just a Place—It Was a Pattern

Let’s take the story of the Exodus. The Israelites were enslaved in Egypt for 400 years. God raised Moses to lead them out, and eventually, they were set free. But here’s where it gets real: their physical journey mirrors a spiritual and emotional one that many of us go through.

  • Egypt represents the place of bondage.
It might be the abusive household you grew up in. The toxic relationship you just escaped. The 9-to-5 job that drained your soul. The version of you that people abused, used, and overlooked.
  • The Wilderness is that weird, dry, in-between space.
You’ve left Egypt, but you haven’t reached your breakthrough. You’re not where you used to be, but you’re definitely not where you want to be. You’re “free,” but not flourishing. You feel unmotivated. Prayer feels pointless. Worship feels fake. Reading the Bible? Yeah, no thanks.
  • The Promised Land is your breakthrough.
The healed version of you. The job you prayed for. The peace you never thought you’d experience. The place where you finally exhale and say, “I’m safe.”

But here’s the thing: most people die in the wilderness because they refuse to let go of their Egyptian mindset.

They said to Moses, ‘Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die?’” – Exodus 14:11

Sometimes God pulls you out of Egypt, but Egypt is still living rent-free in your head.

When You Don’t Feel Like Praying—That’s When You Must

Let me be real with you. That “I don’t feel like praying” funk? That “what’s the point?” feeling? That’s not just fatigue. That’s warfare.

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” – Matthew 26:41
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7

There’s a reason the enemy wants to mute your prayers. Because your prayers are dangerous. They shake things in the spirit before you ever see them in the natural. The devil doesn’t attack empty vessels. If he’s fighting you this hard, it’s because he knows what’s waiting for you on the other side of your obedience.

How To Fight Back When You’re in That Dry Place

  • Don’t wait to feel spiritual—act in faith.
Motivation is a scam. If we waited to feel holy, we’d never pray. Just open your mouth. God doesn’t need eloquence—He needs your honesty.
  • Use Scripture as your sword. – Read the bible
When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness (sound familiar?), He didn’t vibe His way out. He used the Word. “It is written…” – Matthew 4:4
Start small. Read Psalm 23. Speak it aloud. Let it hit different.
  • Be honest with God.
Tell Him you’re tired. He can handle it. David literally said, “My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long?” – Psalm 6:3
God honours raw, real prayers. You don’t have to perform. Just be present.
  • Get accountability.
Find one person who’ll check in on your spirit like they check in on your WiFi signal. Community matters.
  • Worship even if you whisper.
Put on a worship playlist. Sit in stillness. Let the songs minister to you. You’re not lazy. You’re in a battle.

Final Word: Don’t Pitch a Tent in the Wilderness

You were not created to wander forever. If you’re in the dry, weird, middle-space—don’t stop moving. Don’t let spiritual fatigue trick you into thinking God forgot about you. He’s still leading. A cloud by day, a fire by night (Exodus 13:21). That wilderness won’t last forever.

And when you finally walk into your Promised Land—peace, clarity, healing, breakthrough—just know it didn’t come from “vibing” your way through the Word. It came from living it.
